Set your eyes to the skies, it’s time to take off to the Dakota Territory Air Museum. Learn about the region’s aviation history while viewing over 60 vintage aircraft, including one of the largest collections of airworthy World War II aircraft in the Upper Midwest. Be sure to ask about the amazing story behind their P-40E Warhawk!  

Love trains? Discover more than 100 years of trains, tools, and technology at the historical Railroad Museum. Dedicated to the railroad history and culture of this area, that was influential in the founding of Minot, the museum is open on Saturdays.  

Grab lunch just a block away at the Ironhorse Kitchen + Bar, an industrial-style local restaurant with creative American and globally inspired dishes and a lively atmosphere. Try their burgers with various specialty toppings like mac and cheese or the build your own option, get the wedge salad as a side and top it off with a boozy shake.  

Step into a Nordic wonderland at the Scandinavian Heritage Park, where the rich cultural history of Scandinavia meets North Dakota’s heritage. Immerse yourself in awe-inspiring exhibits, including a full-size replica of the Gol Stave Church, crafted without the use of nails. Explore the park’s expansive 14-acre landscape, free of charge, and find the perfect souvenir to remember your visit at the nearby Visitor Center.  

Find more history on the outskirts of Minot, head just a few miles west to the notable Gassman Coulee Trestle. This historic railroad bridge is a favorite among railroad enthusiasts and is a sight to see, as its large beams burst from the prairie landscape and connect two large hills together. Originally built with wooden beams, the bridge is over 2,000 feet long and over 100 feet high. Bring your camera to capture stunning images at this unique photography spot.

Learn what life was like 150 years ago in North Dakota at the Pioneer Village Museum, operated by the Ward County Historical Society. Located just 15 minutes west of Minot, you can explore over 20 historical buildings including a prairie church, fire station, jail, and log cabin furnished with authentic artifacts and antiques recreating life from a bygone era. The museum is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
